Vancouver police say a suspect arrested after a recent stabbing in East Vancouver has now been charged following a homicide investigation.

According to police, Dolly Patricia Capoose, 27, was arrested Thursday morning after a man was found stabbed in a residential building near Kingsway and Melbourne Street in East Vancouver shortly after midnight the same day.

In a Thursday statement, police identified the victim as 34-year-old Brian Mathew Clayton and said he died before being taken to hospital.

Officers believe Capoose and Clayton knew each other.

In a statement issued Friday, VPD Sgt. Steve Addison said the B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Capoose with second-degree murder.

Addison's statement said Capoose remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
