Woman comes forward after cutting off motorcyclist on Highway 417, causing crash

An Ottawa woman has come forward to police and been charged after allegedly cutting off a motorcyclist on Highway 417 in August, causing a crash, and failing to stop at the scene.

It happened on the highway's eastbound lanes, near the Eagleson Road overpass, at about 7 p.m. on Aug. 20.

The following day Ontario Provincial Police issued a media release saying a white vehicle, possibly an SUV, cut off an eastbound motorcycle.

"As a result, the motorcyclist lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle where he landed in the south ditch," OPP said at the time.

The white vehicle continued east without stopping, police said.

The 44-year-old man driving the motorcycle was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 35-year-old Ottawa woman came forward to OPP after seeing the media coverage of the incident.

She was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm and was released from custody on Aug. 21 on a promise to appear in court.
