A 29-year-old woman has died after being hit by a tow truck driver in Toronto on Tuesday morning, police say.

The collision happened in the area of Mount Pleasant Road and Bloor Street East at about 7:30 a.m.

The woman died at the scene. The driver remained at the intersection, police have said.

Sgt. Melissa Kulik, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Services's traffic services unit, said the tow truck was travelling on a ramp from Bloor Street East down to Mount Pleasant Road as the woman was crossing from the north side to the south side of the street.

In a news release Tuesday, police say the driver of the tow truck didn't stop at the intersection's stop sign and struck the woman on the crosswalk.

No charges have been laid yet.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Anyone with dashboard camera footage is also urged to contact police.

Roads in the area, which were closed for the investigation, have since reopened.
