A woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in Vanier early Friday morning, Ottawa paramedics say.

The incident happened shortly before 6 a.m. at Deschamps and Marier avenues, according to the Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Police said the fatal collision involved a pedestrian and a truck at the intersection, and that the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Roads that were closed near the intersection earlier Friday have now been reopened.

"Saddened to hear that someone has lost their life this morning," Coun. Mathieu Fleury said in a tweet. "One death on our roads is too many."

Fleury said while he doesn't have many details, he'll be "listening closely to findings and recommendations" from the investigation.
