A woman is dead after a head-on collision with a semi-trailer on a highway near Oyen, Alta.
The accident happened early Sunday afternoon on Highway 9 near Range Road 51, about 300 kilometres east of Calgary, RCMP said.
RCMP said a westbound SUV head-on collided with an eastbound semi. The collision resulted in both vehicles ending up in opposite ditches.
The female driver of the SUV was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not hurt.
Alberta Transportation has closed the road near the accident and traffic the area will be rerouted for the next eight to 10 hours.
RCMP are still investigating the cause of the collision, but say visibility in the area was poor because of heavy fog.
