Woman exposes suspicious online dating profile after noticing subtle detail: 'I feel sorry for him'

·2 min read

A woman went viral on TikTok after pointing out a subtle detail in an online dating profile that exposed it as fake.

Tanith Gregory (@tanithgregory) shared a video in which she showed an image of a Tinder profile that belonged to a person named Andrew. If you look closely, you’ll notice the photo was taken directly from a Google search for “Tim Johnson model.”

Seeing as he had to Google the photo to have it on hand and the names don’t match up, this seems to be a pretty clear instance of “catfishing,” or creating a fake profile.

“If you’re going to go to the effort of catfishing people on Tinder, Andrew, at least go to the effort of cropping the Google search out,” Gregory said in the video.

It’s worth noting that Andrew’s bio states that they are “loyal.”

“How NOT to catfish 101,” Gregory wrote in her caption.

Commenters found the clip to be both amusing and depressing.

“This has killed me. Outright dead,” one user said, echoing the sentiment felt by most of the top responses.

“I feel sorry for him. He’s so insecure, he had to get someone else’s picture instead,” a sympathetic user wrote

“Imagine this really is Tim Johnson and he Googled a photo of himself because he doesn’t have it in his phone, but forgot to crop it. You never know…” one hypothesized.

While stranger things have happened, that last scenario isn’t likely — though it is curious that they seemingly cropped the bottom half of the photo and not the top part.

And so the search for online love continues for Gregory and “Andrew.”
