Woman fatally struck while crossing Tacoma street identified. An arrest has been made

A 45-year-old man who was found dead on Jan. 5 at the Parkland Prairie Nature Preserve has been officially identified.

A woman who was killed when a vehicle struck her while she was crossing a street last week in Tacoma has been identified.

Ruth Kigo, 66, died from multiple blunt force injuries on Dec. 26 near South G Street and 72nd Street. Her manner of death has been ruled as an accident, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office in a news release.

Police were dispatched at about 5 p.m. and found that Kigo died at the scene, The News Tribune reported. Police believe Kigo was wearing all dark clothing and crossing an unmarked crosswalk when she was struck.

The female driver remained at the scene.

The woman was arrested, and police believe intoxicants were a factor in the crash. The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case, Tacoma Police Department spokesman detective William Muse told The News Tribune on Tuesday.
