Woman dies after dad hits her trying to park near Ottawa hospital

A 54-year-old woman was struck by a black Ford Flex crossover on Saturday morning and she suffered life-threatening injuries.

A 54-year-old woman has died after her father, trying to park the vehiclie, struck her near The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus Saturday morning.

Paramedics responded to a call for a pedestrian struck on Parkdale Avenue between Inglewood Place and Ruskin Street at 10:23 a.m., right outside the hospital.

The driver of a black Ford Flex crossover struck the woman and her vital signs were absent when paramedics arrived, they said.

She sustained multi-system traumatic injuries and paramedics began aggressive advance life support. The woman was then taken to the hospital’s trauma centre where she later died from her injuries.

A witness said a Trenton, Ont., man in his 80s was trying to park the vehicle as he was visiting a family member at the hospital.

His daughter, the crash victim, was helping him park when he struck her, a witness said.

Ottawa police closed Parkdale between Ruskin and Carling Avenue to investigate.
