Woman killed in crash with truck carrying pistachios in Fresno County ID’d by coroner

A woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash was identified Monday afternoon by the Fresno coroner.

She was 61-year-old Gretchen Scotia of Fresno.

The fatal collision happened at 1:20 p.m. Sept. 6 at Highway 180 and Hayes Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said Scotia was northbound on Hayes approaching a stop sign at 180 when she appeared to run a stop sign into the path of the Peterbilt truck hauling pistachios.

The driver of the Peterbilt was unable to avoid the impact and collided into the left side of the Toyota in the eastbound lane, CHP said.

Both vehicles veered to the north shoulder, where pistachios spilled from the trailer.

Scotia was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured, CHP said.

The use of alcohol or drugs was not suspected. Anyone with information is asked to call CHP at 559-705-2200.
