Woman killed following fire at Gig Harbor-area home identified. Cause under investigation

One person is dead following a house fire in Gig Harbor on Sunday.

A woman who died following a fire inside a Gig Harbor-area home on Sunday has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Mary Williamson, 77, was found critically injured near the 13100 block of 140th Avenue Northwest. Key Peninsula Fire announced later that day on Facebook that she died.

Williamson’s cause and manner of death are pending, the Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release. That is a temporary designation used when additional investigation, information and/or test results are required for certification.

Fire crews were dispatched at 10:57 a.m. the day of the fire. The fire was knocked down by 11:28 a.m., according to the department’s Facebook page, and fully out at 12:39 p.m.

As of Thursday, the cause of the fire was still under investigation, Key Peninsula Fire spokeswoman Anne Nesbit told The News Tribune.
