Man and woman dead in Riverdale area a 'single homicide,' police say

Woman, 59, ID'd as 2nd victim in Riverdale-area double homicide

Toronto police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman in the Riverdale area overnight as a 'single homicide.'

Officers were first called to the intersection of Logan Avenue and Gerrard Street East just before midnight, where they found a man in his 20s in a vehicle who had suffered gunshot wounds and was without vital signs.

"This is currently being treated as a single homicide with the investigation focusing on the man," Const. Craig Brister told CBC Toronto. "The woman who was found in the Cavell Avenue home is being treated as a suspicious death until a post mortem can be conducted."

Police say the man was en route to hospital in a car after he was shot, but that car stopped and someone called emergency services.

Paramedics then rushed the man to hospital in life-threatening condition, where he later died.

A woman was then found in a house on Cavell Avenue, a short side street that runs near the intersection of Danforth and Pape avenues.

Paramedics were called to that home at 12:18 a.m. for a person without vital signs. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the identities of either of the deceased.
