Woman Rents Out Her Home On Airbnb, Gets Turned Into A Brothel

A woman who rented out her home using accommodation-sharing site AIrbnb was shocked to discover that it had been turned into a makeshift brothel.

The unnamed Australian woman was a regular AIrbnb user and hadn’t suffered any problems with people using her home before.

But the latest two-night booking set alarm bells ringing when neighbours saw a constant stream of men coming and going from the property.

The alleged sex worker’s time in the house ended two hours later when the owner kicked her out, saying that she lied about wanting the house while she was on holiday.

She also reportedly paid for it by cash, rather than through the website.

Airbnb Australian General Manager, Sam McDonagh, said the incident highlighted why customers should not take bookings outside of the site.

He said: “This was not an Airbnb reservation. More than 40 million guests have stayed with Airbnb, and problems for guests and hosts are incredibly rare.

“The bottom line is when you book a reservation through our secure platform, you receive the benefits of Airbnb’s global trust and safety program and $1 Million Host Guarantee.

“It’s why there is a reminder to only book through Airbnb next to every message thread.

“We have been in contact with the host to offer our support.”

The woman who rented the property is alleged to have used other Airbnb residences to carry out her services.

Airbnb has been used by more than 40 million people since it launched in 2008.
