Woman Shares Foot Self-Tanner Fail

Socks as tanning mitts may not be a great idea.

There are a few makeup mishaps that most beauty lovers have likely experienced at least once: A cat-eye smudged into oblivion, red lipstick all over your teeth, and — perhaps the most frustrating of all — self-tanner fails.

As Allure reported, Jules Von Hepp, founder of Isles of Paradise Self Tanner, took to Instagram on October 16 to reveal what happened when a customer accidentally wore a sock she was using as a self-tanning mitt. The result? A very, very tan foot...and a decidedly not-so-tan ankle and leg.

"I was using a sock as a temp tanning mitt and forgot and put that one on at 5am to go to the gym," the customer wrote alongside of a photo showing off the (very obvious) color disparity with the words "F*CK SAKE" overlaid (which the customer sent to Jules via direct message). "Lucky i have your tan eraser 😂😂😂," she added, referring to the Isle of Paradise Over It Tan Eraser.

The post serves as a crucial (and hilarious) reminder that, as easy as self-tanning purports to be, messing it up is just as simple. That's why it's so important to follow a few key tips before faking a tan. And if doesn't quite work out, the best way to deal with a streaky spray tan is with a tan eraser (like the Isle of Paradise version) or a body exfoliant mitt, a la St. Tropez's Remover Mitt. Despite what Ashley Graham does; please, please don't use Windex.
