Woman struck and killed while walking on Highway 99 in Modesto, CHP reports

A 30-year-old woman walking into oncoming traffic on Highway 99 in south Modesto was killed Thursday night when struck by a pickup truck.

The CHP reported the fatality occurred about 11:40 p.m. in the No. 1 lane of southbound Highway 99.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office said Friday that the woman’s name is being withheld pending notification of her family. The woman’s city of residence was not available.

The CHP’s preliminary investigation states the woman was wearing dark clothing and walking north in a dark area of the highway. The driver, heading south from South Ninth Street, did not see the woman and could not avoid hitting her.

The CHP identified the pickup driver as 53-year-old Winton resident Ana Rodriquez. She was not injured.
