Woman's body found at Tinker Dam

A woman's body was discovered in the Aroostook River near Tinker over the weekend, say RCMP.

The body was found on Sunday, shortly after 10:30 a.m., at the Tinker Dam, RCMP Sgt. Don Daigle said in a statement.

An autopsy is scheduled to be performed today.

Police have not said whether foul play is suspected.

Perth Andover RCMP are seeking the public's help to identify the woman, said Daigle.

There were no personal belongings or pieces of identification found with the body, he said.

Investigators are currently looking through missing persons reports, trying to determine if any cases match the woman's description.

Forensic identification experts are assisting with the investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267).

Tinker is less than a kilometre from the Canada-U.S. border in western New Brunswick.

In June 2007, the body of a toddler from Maine was found at Tinker Dam.

Three-year-old Alexandria Winship-Wright had been missing since April 25.

Investigators believed she fell into the Aroostook River in the backyard of her home in Fairfield.

Her body was discovered when members of a Maine search and rescue team flew over the river taking digital photographs.

The Tinker Dam is a 34-megawatt hydroelectic dam that was built in 1923.
