'Women are stronger than ever': Thalía talks 'Latin Music Queens' show with Farina and Sofía Reyes

Three of the biggest names in Latin music have teamed up for a new digital series.

Thalía, Farina and Sofía Reyes star in "Latin Music Queens," a new series from Facebook Watch. The series, which debuts today at 9 p.m. ET, follows the personal and professional lives of the three performers, offering a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse at what it's like to be an international singing sensation.

Thalía, one of Mexico's biggest telenovela stars and music superstar, has a string of hits including "No Me Ensenaste" and "Te Perdiste Mi Amor." She has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide and in 2015 launched her own fashion line, Thalía, sold at Macy's.

Farina, whose name means "unique" in Arabic, got her start in 2005 when she appeared on the Colombian version of "The X Factor." Her debut album, "Yo Soy Farina," dropped the following year. In 2017, she was signed by Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.

Among the most-streamed female Mexican singers on Spotify, Reyes moved from Mexico to California when she was 16 to pursue her singing career. Her debut single, "Now Forever," came in 2013with "Muévelo" coming the following year.

In the first episode, the trio meets up in New York City. Later installments largely feature them at their homes due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic: Thalía in New York, Farina in Colombia and Reyes in Los Angeles.

"I don't know if it's a reality show or a documentary, but it is the process of three powerful, talented women making songs," Thalía, who serves as an executive producer on the series alongside husband and longtime music executive Tommy Mottola, told USA TODAY.

Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, she recorded "Estoy Soltera" with Farina, who is in the process of recording her first new album since 2012's "Del Odio Al Amor." Reyes, meanwhile, most recently teamed up with Michael Bublé and Barenaked Ladies to record quarantine song "Gotta Be Patient."

"Music is a constant," Thalía said. "It means a lot because we are doing it in a moment where women are stronger than ever. There's male domination in the Latin music charts. The three of us are changing that."

Thalía anticipates the show will have broad appeal because its stars come from three different generations. She's 49, Farina is 34 and Reyes is 24.

"They're going to see us as artists, as writers, as a person," she said. "Impatient. Desperate. In good days and bad days. We get angry and we get sad together. We keep moving."
