Maggie Mcguffin was turned away from a Jet Blue flight on account of her “inappropriate” shorts.

The burlesque dancer was bound for Seattle from Boston on a connecting flight with the same airline; although she’d experienced no difficulties boarding on the first leg of her journey.

According to a Facebook post shared by outraged friend Molly McIsaac, Mcguffin was offered no explanation other than “the pilot said her clothes would prevent her boarding the plane.”

Mcguffin was then made to endure the humiliating ordeal of making her way to another terminal to purchase a pair of women’s sleep shorts in XL for “proper coverage”.

In the Facebook post which has since received thousands of reactions, comments and shares, Mcguffin’s friend said: “Despite contacting Jet Blue at length, all they have done to “make it right” is refund her for the swim trunks and give her less than $200 in credit. The company apologised but the pilot did not. They have not offered any explanation for their behaviour.”

After checking the Jet Blue website we found no indication of a required dress code.

Regrettably this is not the first story we’ve heard of paying female customers being shamed by corporations for “inappropriate” attire. Jim-goer Jenna Vecchio was asked by Movati Athletic Club in Ontario to change out of her vest top (pictured above) as staff deemed it “offensive”.

Vecchio took to Facebook to voice her outrage at being singled out: “I was instructed by a Supervisor at the club that my tank top was inappropriate dress and is offensive to both the staff and other members.”

Despite there being other women in similar attire at the gym and pictured on the Movati Athletic Club’s website, Vecchio speculated it was her breast size that was the issue.

It’s deeply saddening to see in today’s society women are still battling with the most basic of sexism issues.
