Woodstock RCMP catch 2 men driving 60 km/h over speed limit

2 people killed in collision with transport truck near Allardville

Two drivers have been slapped with hefty fines, and one has lost his driver's licence for a year, after the Woodstock RCMP pulled them over for driving 60 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.

The Woodstock RCMP nabbed two drivers — a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man — on Route 110 outside of Centreville on Aug. 14. They were clocked driving approximately 150 km/h in a 90 km/h zone.

One driver had his licence suspended for a year and will have to pay more than $600 in fines. The other driver is facing charges and fines.

This comes a week after it was announced that Woodstock Police pulled over a man claiming he was late for work. He was driving 184 km/h in a 110 km/h zone. That man received a $600 ticket.

RCMP Const. Emily Rafuse said in a press release from the West District RCMP that the speeds were "very high" and warned against dangerous driving.

"The time it takes to stop for a hazard goes up significantly and the impact of a crash becomes greater the faster you are driving," she said.

"The consequences can be deadly and it isn't worth the risk. No one is immortal, and it only takes a moment for tragedy to strike."

The RCMP is asking the public to report anyone they see driving unsafely.

"Everyone has a role to play in making our roads safer, and we're also asking for the public's assistance," Rafuse said in a press release.
