Worker dies in 2nd accident at GSC Technologies
A second worker in just over three years has died in a workplace accident at GSC Technologies in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Quebec’s Montérégie.
The most recent accident happened Monday around 8:45 p.m. ET, although the nature of the accident has not yet been disclosed.
Municipal police were on the scene overnight, while Quebec’s workplace health and safety board (CSST) put a rush on deploying an investigator to determine what happened and, eventually, to make recommendations.
In 2011, mechanic Michael Roland Clark died after being crushed by a computer control cabinet weighing 907 kilograms. In that death, the CSST determined the method used to lift the control cabinet was dangerous.
The CSST determined that GSC Technologies had compromised the safety of its workers and the company was fined thousands of dollars. The CSST does not disclose the exact dollar amounts of the fines it issues.
GSC Technologies produces plastic objects like folding tables and chairs, storage systems and shelving units in Canada, the United States and China.
According to the CSST, 235 workers are injured in Quebec every day.
