Some workers at Lakeside Packers concerned about their future

Staff at Lakeside Packers in Brooks, Alta. say they are worried about their future after the company cut workers hours.

The plant, owned by XL foods, has been under tight scrutiny after investigators discovered meat tainted with E. coli earlier this month.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued recalls for 250 ground beef products and United States Department of Agriculture closed their border to the company's products.

Nasrin Osman, who works at Lakeside, says the company is reducing workers’ hours.

“It's scary right now, you feel like you need to find another job or something, but we need to wait and see what's going to happen, right?," Osman said.

The Union says that Lakeside ships a significant amount of meat to the U.S. so it’s hoping to see that border opened soon.

On Tuesday, XL foods issued a statement saying it’s doing everything it can to abide by CFIA regulations.
