Workshop discussing how to be a transgender ally

For the Transgender Day of Remembrance, marked on Nov. 20, Fierté Timmins Pride will present a virtual workshop on how to be an ally.

“That’s the day when we go to recognize all the struggles and the people who have been affected due to transphobia, discrimination,” said Fierté Timmins Pride president Matthieu Villeneuve.

In the past, Fierté Timmins Pride has gathered at city hall for a moment of silence, Villeneuve said. This year awareness is being shared virtually due to the pandemic.

No pre-registration is required for the event, which will be held Friday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. via Zoom.

The Beyond Tolerance: A Trans Allyship Workshop will be led by community educator and consultant Lane Patriquin, who will talk about pronouns and what it means to be an ally.

The event is mostly geared towards community service providers but everyone is welcome to join, Villeneuve said.

The workshop’s Zoom meeting ID is 9156346669.
