World's largest street hockey tournament makes a stop in Saskatoon

The world's largest street hockey tournament and hockey festival, Play On!, has made its way to Saskatoon.

"We've been gone [from Saskatoon] since 2014 and to celebrate Canada's 150th we decided to come back," said Jake Clarke, director of hockey and operations for the tournament.

This will be the 14th year for the tournament and its eighth time stopping in the Bridge City.

According to Clarke, 47 teams from across the province and Western Canada took part in the local competition. Some even travelled to Saskatchewan from Alberta and B.C.

Clarke said the two-day tournament brought out about 400 diverse participants.

"To see some of these guys, that have no ice hockey background at all, dominate in their street hockey division is really cool," he said.

He added that the funds raised over the weekend will be donated to local charities such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saskatoon.

"We support local charities that kind of give back to youth and kids," Clarke said.
