Update: Wreck on I-5 near the Tacoma Dome on Tuesday evening has cleared; backups abate

Update at 8:26 p.m.: Most of the backups have diminished.

Update at 7:44 p.m.: The crash has been cleared, but traffic is still snarled in the area. Expect delays for some time.

Previous post: A wreck on northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma near the Tacoma Dome had three lanes blocked at 7:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The wreck occurred about 6:54 p.m., the Washington State Department of Transportation reported.

Traffic was backed up to South Thompson Avenue and along state Route 7 and Pacific Avenue in the vicinity of the crash.
