WWD Report Card: Awards Fashion From the Couch

The fashion that stood out from the at-home A-list crowd of this year’s Emmys.

Shira Haas

The slicked-back hair gives this floral embroidered Chanel gown a cool edge. The strapless neckline and statement belt prevent the dress from overwhelming her petite frame. And what’s not to love about a simple diamond necklace with matching chandelier earrings?

Zendaya

Big printed polka dots can veer into clown territory, but Zendaya’s youth and natural fashion sense turn it into a modern style statement. The beaded crop top helps balance the Armani skirt’s playful volume, and the retro beehive hair reference is fun, too.

Regina King:

The sharp tailored Schiaparelli suit not only looks beautiful on her, at the same time it’s very empowering. The shimmery pink eye shadow plays nicely with the fuchsia shade of the suit. And the Breonna Taylor T-shirt is a powerful and much-needed statement — not to mention a very smart way of using the Emmys platform.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Having fun with clothes is needed more than ever these days, and no one does it like Ross. The gold metallic Alexandre Vauthier gown with layered skirt ruffles reads very glamorous, while the deep neckline and statement Tiffany necklace show confidence.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

This Louis Vuitton take on the heritage chalk pinstripe double-breasted power suit feels sleek and of the now. The fitted silhouette (a bit too tight) enhances his athletic physique, while the chain-embellished loafers continue to give this a modern edge. And we love the sunglasses and no tie.

Julia Garner

We love this take on Twenties Hollywood siren. The satin blush Chanel look really works well with her complexion, but the ultra wide leg with the layered ruffle at the bottom is what really makes it. This is perfect for the at-home Emmys — the ultimate take on pajamas. The layered pearls tie in perfectly with the pearl bow detail of the shoe – and the vintage era, for that matter.

Dan Levy

The skirt suit from Thom Browne got a lot of airtime, due to Levy’s repeat wins. Within Browne’s world, this is another day at the office, but for a Hollywood awards show this was a courageous move by Levy that we applaud. We like the tension created by the “Top Gun” aviator sunglasses — and bonus points for a matching mask.

Billy Porter

We’ve come to expect show-stopping red carpet moments from Porter — and even while at home he didn’t disappoint. This (third wedding) bridal moment from Ashi Studio is a walk in the park for Porter — but it still packs major drama. And it fits to perfection.
