WWF kicks off Toronto's 3rd Kids' Run for Nature

World Wildlife Fund Canada kicked off its third annual Kids' Run for Nature this weekend with hundreds of children taking part in the run at Toronto's Withrow Park and other sister events held in Ontario and Alberta.

The event was founded in 2015 by Jasmine de Pencier and Jett Jardeleza-Toole, who were ten years old at the time. They say they launched it because of their shared love for nature and running.

"We were really concerned about animal issues and the endangered species in Canada," Jardeleza-Toole tells CBC Toronto.

"So we decided to make a run because running is our favourite sport."

Their moms have also helped out by splitting taking care of the event between themselves and describe themselves as "supportive worker bee mothers" who push to bring their girls' vision to life.

Both the moms and girls say they're happy with the turnout at this year's run at Withrow Park in Riverdale.

"It's a really joyous event," Julie Toole says.

"It's so great to see people running in our park and enjoying themselves, being active and raising funds for a good cause."
