This year, Canadians were interested in a truly diverse selection of videos online. There are the usual viral videos, but plenty of commercials were also dubbed worth sharing amongst friends online. Here’s a look at YouTube Canada’s list of the most watched videos this year.

Watched more than 275 million times, the strange Norwegian music video for Ylvis’ What Does the Fox Say topped the charts for Canadians on YouTube in 2013. It may be the quirky costumes, or the catchy beat, but this oddity certainly earned its place at the pinnacle of Canadian YouTube viral fame.

Rather than focusing entirely on the absurd, millions watched this touching commercial put together by beauty products company Dove, which helped make women across all walks of life feel a little more beautiful. The simple idea of having strangers describe what the women looked like to a sketch artist turned into a powerful, tear-jerker of a commercial.

Absurdity is the name of the game again in this film from Mister Epic Mann. Even the straight man in this pairing can’t keep the giggles away at his partner's impression of a kangaroo.

Take your fear of computer-generated dancing babies to a whole new level with this Evian commercial. But hey, that song is pretty catchy.

You only live once, so you might as well watch this music video.

There were many, many versions of the Harlem Shake videos, but this one of the Norwegian Army struck a chord and garnered over 95 million views.

If you’ve never watched a Bad Lip Reading before, you’re in for a treat. This NFL version is certainly one of the team’s best.

Pranks are a dime a dozen on YouTube, but the work that went into this one definitely paid off big time. These poor fast-food workers will probably never want to work the night shift again.

Canada’s own rock star astronaut Chris Hadfield performed his own version of David Bowie’s hit Space Oddity, made all the more special because it was actually performed in space. The video was a collaboration between Hadfield (who made numerous videos during his time as ISS Commander) and his son.

Another prank made the list, this time with some much more elaborate equipment and preparation. Patrons of this New York City coffee shop were definitely not expecting this when they walked in for their cup o’ joe. The high production value of the prank was on account of this being a viral marketing campaign for the movie Carrie, but that probably wouldn’t make you run out the door any slower…
