Yes, Emily Blunt can sing 'My Shot' from 'Hamilton' as Mary Poppins (watch!)

She’s practically perfect in every way. He’s got a lot of brains but no polish. What do Mary Poppins and Alexander Hamilton have in common? A little Disney film called Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt in the title role and Hamilton star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda as her lamplighter sidekick, Jack. The sequel to 1964’s Mary Poppins marks Miranda’s first major Hollywood performance, as well as his most prominent acting gig since playing Alexander Hamilton in his own Broadway show. Naturally, a few Hamilton songs made their way onto the set, though not in the way you might expect. Watch the video above to see Miranda explain — and to hear self-professed Hamilton superfan Blunt say, “I am not throwing away my shot” in her best Poppins voice.

In a conversation with Yahoo Entertainment, Miranda revealed that the three youngest stars of Mary Poppins Returns, who play Michael Banks’s children, figured out midway through filming that he was “the Hamilton guy.”

“So I would start hearing snippets of ‘My Shot’ on set, and they would be like, [whispers] ‘Shut up, shut up, he’s here!'” Miranda said with a chuckle. “And then that became very fun … between scenes.”

Since Miranda brought up “My Shot,” his character’s signature rap ballad, we couldn’t resist asking him: Should we try to get his co-star to sing a line as Mary Poppins? “Anytime you can encourage Emily to do anything in the Mary Poppins voice, you should,” he said. And sure enough, Blunt — who told us she knows “every word” of Miranda’s musical — delivered.

Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on Dec. 19.
