York police officer facing more sexual assault charges

A York Regional Police officer is once again facing sexual assault charges — the second time in just over two years.

Const. Young Min von Seefried is charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust after a 26-year-old woman came forward last November, saying she was sexually assaulted by the officer in 2014.

The 35-year-old was arrested by the Special Investigations Unit on Thursday, and his bail hearing has been adjourned until July, according to a news release.

This is the second time von Seefried has faced sexual assault charges. He was convicted last November and sentenced to 16 months in jail in February for assaulting a woman at a traffic stop in Richmond Hill back in 2015.

It wasn't immediately clear how much time he's served of that sentence.

According to Const. Andy Pattenden of York Regional Police, von Seefried has been suspended without pay since his conviction in November 2016.

The SIU — an arm's length agency that investigates reports of death, serious injury and sexual assault involving police — says it will make no further comment on the investigation, given that it is now before the courts.
