  • Both New York tabloids on Saturday called out Trump's violent rhetoric toward Alvin Bragg.

  • Bragg, the Manhattan DA, is weighing an indictment against Trump in a hush-money investigation.

  • Trump threatened last week there would be "potential death & destruction" if a charge was brought.

New York's two major tabloids don't usually agree. In fact, their front pages are often a testament to the city's — and the country's — divided politics.

But both the liberal-leaning New York Daily News and conservative-leaning New York Post shared a rare moment of consensus on Saturday when they both condemned the threats of violence made by Donald Trump in response to news that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could soon indict the former president.

A grand jury has heard from what most expect to be its last witness, and could reach a decision on whether or not to indict as early as Monday.

Bragg has been investigating the hush money paid to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress who claims she had an affair with Trump, and the possibility that those payments may have violated campaign finance laws. As the reality of an indictment grew near last week, the former president posted photos on Truth Social of himself holding a baseball bat, ready to swing, next to a photo of Bragg. Trump has since deleted the post.

The New York Post's front page on Saturday featured the bat-slinging photo of Trump with the headline "BAT HIT CRAZY" and "Deranged Trump threatens violence against Bragg, who gets death note."

Similarly, The New York Daily News called Trump "THE DANGEROUS DON," adding that New York politicians slammed "Trump's 'racist bile.'"

Trump on Friday posted again on Truth Social asking why Bragg would charge him "when it is known by all that NO Crime has been committed, & also known that potential death & destruction in such a false charge could be catastrophic for our Country? Why & who would do such a thing? Only a degenerate psychopath that truely hates the USA!"

Trump has posted other similar statements in the past. In one post he referred to Bragg as a George "Soros-backed animal," prompting New York politicians to condemn him for racism and anti-Semitism, according to the Daily News.

Tensions escalated further on Friday after Bragg's office received "several hundred threats," including a letter with "suspicious white powder" that was addressed to Bragg with the note: "ALVIN: I AM GOING TO KILL YOU!!!"

The New York Post also published an editorial on Friday saying Trump's responses to the various investigations into his conduct have been "unhinged, indicative, and self-defeating" and that Republicans in 2024 need to "pick someone who can actually get elected."

The New York Post, which was once a reliable Trump stalwart, has recently turned its back on the former president. It's not the first dig the newspaper has made against Trump in recent months, and when Trump first announced his candidacy for 2024, the Post buried the news at the bottom of the page with the headline, "Florida man makes announcement."
