Yorkton Regional High School (YRHS) is getting a major upgrade to the interior workings of the building. MLA Greg Ottenbreit, a former Yorkton Raider himself, was pleased to announce on Monday that YRHS will receive $19 million to renovate and update the school as part of the province's $7.5 billion two-year plan to re-open Saskatchewan.
Government and Good Spirit School Division representatives met at YRHS to speak at a press conference regarding the announcement.
"Thank you to all the teachers and educators. Our students have returned to class,” said Deputy Premier Gordon Wyant, Minister of Education. “Our government recognizes the importance of maintaining our existing education infrastructure, to ensure students and staff have a welcoming learning environment for years to come,” Wyant continued, “These school improvements will serve the Yorkton community and will support job growth in our province.”
Bob Simpson, Board Chair of the Good Spirit School Division (GSSD) happily thanked the Province, “We are thrilled to be selected to receive this major capital funding that allows for the upgrades at Yorkton Regional High School.” GSSD Board Chair Bob Simpson said, “Thank you to Minister Wyant and the Government of Saskatchewan for providing the resources needed to ensure the Yorkton Regional High School continues to live their motto of ‘In Pursuit of Excellence’ for another 50 years.”
