Young woman and her baby defy odds to survive coronavirus

This week saw the emotional discharge of a young woman and her baby who beat the odds to survive coronavirus. Staff from Blackpool Victoria Hospital fought tirelessly to save mum, Kathrine Dawson, after she ended up spending eight days on a ventilator after giving birth to baby Ruby, who was born with COVID-19. After 37 days in hospital the family were cheered and applauded by scores of staff as they left the hospital to start a life they feared they would not see back at home with their other two daughters. Staff from the Families Division also broke into spontaneous applause when the team from the COVID ITU unit arrived to join the guard of honour.
