Youth parliament attracting high school students from across P.E.I.

A two-day youth parliament session is wrapping up Saturday.

Thirty-two high school students from across the Island are meeting at The Rodd Charlottetown Hotel to talk about the changes they’d like to see happen on P.E.I.

Students and rotary exchange students are acting in the role of Island legislators to debate bills and resolutions on current topics of interest. Some of those topics chosen by students include education, mental health, first-responder appreciation, and student loan forgiveness.

Colton Profitt is acting as the premier at the event.

"There's a big stigma around saying that young people they don't care about what's going on and stuff, but I think we're a group of people that are showing that the youth care, we care and I think it's important because you need to know what's going on in the world around you, especially in P.E.I.," he said.
