Zenabis puts Atholville warehouse up for sale for $6M
The warehouse in Atholville that was to be home to a medical marijuana plant has been put up for sale and the website of the company behind the initiative is down.
Zenabis bought the former Atlantic Yarns facility in March 2014 and applied to Health Canada for a licence to produce medical marijuana.
However, a licence has yet to be granted, frustrating mayors and other officials in northern New Brunswick.
Zenabis said it would create 400 jobs in an area hard-pressed for employment and more than 1,400 people applied.
To date, Health Canada has approved 26 licences for medical marijuana production. There have been more than 1,100 applicants.
Health Canada resuses to comment on specific licences and won't say whether Zenabis's application has been rejected or is still under consideration.
The 393,000-square-foot warehouse that was to be the Zenabis facility is now listed for sale through Colliers International. The asking price for the warehouse and 20 acres of land is $5,999,999.
Attempts by CBC News to contact officials from Zenabis have not been successful.
