It’s a big year for the Britney Spears–inspired sheer black lace minidress. First, Tate McRae paid homage to the iconic look at the 2024 VMAs. Now, Zoë Kravitz has done the same at Paris Fashion Week.

Spears’s original dress, worn in 2001, was designed by Dolce & Gabbana, while McRae’s updated version was Roberto Cavalli. The black lace dress worn by Kravitz on September 24, with its mock turtleneck, long sleeves, and floral pattern, is Saint Laurent.

Kravitz accessorized with delicate drop earrings, a slicked-back bun, and pointed-toe slingback pumps, also in black.

But while Spears and McRae wore a bra and underwear under their sheer dresses, Kravitz took the look even bolder by opting to skip the bra altogether, allowing her breasts to remain partially exposed.

Then again, at this point, who hasn’t freed the nipple on the red carpet? Zoë Kravitz certainly has even before this. Just this past April, the actor turned director attended a performance of Cabaret in another totally sheer Saint Laurent black minidress, which she layered under a black coat. And in March, she wore a nipple-baring black Saint Laurent dress to a pre-Oscars party for Oppenheimer along with her fiancé, Channing Tatum (whose nipples remained covered).

All of which is to say, both the Britney Spears homage and free-nipple trend remain alive and well.
