15-year-old accused of aiding terrorist group appears in Montreal court

The RCMP in Quebec said late Wednesday that a 15-year-old is facing charges under 83.181 of the Criminal Code — which involves leaving or attempting to leave Canada to participate in the activities of a terrorist group.

It is also alleged he committed robbery for the benefit of, or at the direction of, a terrorist group.

Police aren't commenting on the specifics of the case.

"The RCMP is relentless in its pursuit of those who would seek to participate in terrorist activity. We are determined to take action to protect Canadians and to keep our communities safe and resilient," James Malizia, Asst. Commissioner and officer in charge of RCMP Federal Policing Operations, said in a statement.

The teen made an appearance earlier Wednesday at the Montreal courthouse.
