A construction trailer fire at a condo development in Little Italy is being investigated by the Ottawa police arson unit less than three weeks after a similar fire at another condo development just blocks away.

The latest fire broke out at 500 Preston St., near Carling Avenue, just before 2:30 a.m. Several people called 911 to report that a wooden construction trailer was on fire.

The construction trailer, nine metres long and three metres wide, sustained about $10,000 in damage.

No one was hurt.

500 Preston St. is the site of developer Mastercraft Starwood's 30-storey condominium, Soho Italia, which is under construction.

On March 24 at about 4:30 a.m., a fire broke out in a construction trailer at another Mastercraft Starwood condo building on Champagne Avenue South.

The 20-storey Soho Champagne luxury condo building, which is also under construction, is just three blocks away from the site of the latest fire.

The March 24 fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the trailer and $50,000 to its contents. A 180-kilogram propane tank next top the trailer had to be kept cool by fire crews as the fire was extinguished.

Fire officials said there were signs of forced entry at the site.

No one was injured.
