A room with a view: Hornet nest built against window

Hornet nest forms in double-pane window

This is one view we’re not interested in having.

YouTube user Vang Tsal uploaded a video of a European Hornets’ nest built against an attic window, giving residents a rare peak into the busy colony’s world.

On Reddit, the uploader reassured creeped-out viewers that the nest poses no threat to those inside the house:

Wasps were kind enough to build this nest in a double-glass window which can not be opened and it is isolated in the attic. No worries for me or the neighbours.”

As per Reddit users’ request, Vang Tsal created a short time-lapse video of the nest — and also shared a photo of the nest in its earlier stages.

Some viewers expressed concern over the nest, encouraging the home owner to get it destroyed as soon as possible — and not just wait for winter temperatures to kill them.

"Seriously, I hope you get them killed soon. Wasps are competitors with bees, and will raid hives to steal food, depleting winter stores and killing workers. Every one of those brood cells is potentially another hive waiting to happen, you’d be putting a nice dent in your local wasp population," wrote Reddit user PunksPrettyMuchDead. “Plus, they’re the physical manifestations of condensed hatred.”

"Yes, the bees thing is my main concern. But I can not do it," the original posted wrote in response to the suggestion of killing them.”Their construction is so awesome. Nature will kill them anyway in few weeks,” referring to the upcoming cold weather that would see the end of the hive.
