Canada to get Coors Light ‘Iced T’ beer in time for patio season

Tea time just got a little more interesting.

Molson Coors is introducing a new flavoured beer, Coors Light Iced T, which will be coming to Canada next month.

According to Daily Finance, the beer will have a citrus-like flavour with 4% alcohol content. It has no caffeine, so presumably it will merely be tea flavouring instead of actual tea. Canada will be the test market for the beer and if it takes off with tea-flavoured-beer connoisseurs, Molson Coors will roll it out in the U.S., too.

This new beer does raise some important questions for those of us who are fans of both iced tea and beer, however.

First, is this "iced tea" flavour going for a sweet, lemony taste like most Canadian iced teas? It certainly seems so, as the flavour has been described as citrus-like. If they do choose that flavour profile for Canada, will it have to change when it moves south of the border? This may be a particular issue for states like Georgia where sweet tea is something of a coveted drink, or other states where 'iced tea' really is straight up tea with ice in it.

Second, will this inspire strange new variations on the John Daly? While traditionally made with vodka mixed into an Arnold Palmer (half iced tea, half lemonade), it may inspire new beer-based mixes on patios this summer.

And the third and most important question of all: will anyone actually drink this?
