Feeling superstitious? Passengers board flight 666 to Hel

Passengers, welcome to flight 666 on this fine day, Friday September 13. We'll be arriving in Hel in a few hours where the weather is ... balmy.

Travelers on Finnair headed from Copenhagen to Helsinki, Finland today aren't expected to find spooky, flickering lights or any ghostly apparitions mid-air, but the superstitious among them might find the flight's name and number in combination with today's unlucky date a reason to cross their fingers and toes as they fly.

The numbers 666 and 13 have satanic connections that have prompted some airlines to remove the thirteenth row, according to the Associated Press. However, the news wire reported that flight 666 to Helsinki, even with its destination abbreviated as Hel, is nearly full.

The pilot, Juha-Pekka Keidasto, told Associated Press the flight's creepy name has become a joke at the airline, but he isn't worried.

"I'm not a superstitious man. It's only a coincidence for me," he told the news wire.

Coincidence or not, some estimates put the lost business revenue in the US for this day at $800 or $900 million, because of people refusing to fly or make other purchases, according to National Geographic.

But in the town of Port Dover, ON, this day is more of a reason to party than a reason to cower in fear. Canadian Press reported local businesses and bars have been preparing for a flood of motorcyclists to descend on Port Dover and party all day — a tradition they follow each Friday 13.
