Toronto man charged for offering beer for eggs and tomatoes thrown at Rob Ford

A Toronto man has been charged after making an online offer to reward anyone who threw eggs or tomatoes at Toronto Mayor Rob Ford during a celebratory barbecue over the weekend.

Toronto police announced the charges on Monday, days after the raucous Ford Fest was held in a Scarborough park, during which Ford supporters clashed with gay rights activists and at least one apparent assault was captured on video.

According to police, the suspect posted a message on a Toronto-based website that offered free beer to anyone who threw eggs or tomatoes at the mayor.

Dilaz Rajwani faces one charge of counseling an uncommitted indictable offence.

There is no indication that the alleged offer and the conflicts that erupted at Ford Fest were related.

Ford Fest is a self-aggrandizing party often held by Ford and his brood, which had previously been held in his mother's backyard. More recently, however, they have expanded to city parks, despite accusations that the party was a campaign event that should not be held on city property.

The event became a lightning rod for the bevy of Toronto factions that oppose Rob Ford, his divisive politics and his offensive behavior.

CBC News reports that Ford supporters "grabbed the protesters' signs, tore them up, threw them on the ground and stamped on them."

There were also reports that one supporter aggressively grabbed the throat of another person. The clashes led to Ford kind of apologizing to the public.

“It's terrible things like that happen,” he said told CP24. “I apologize and we have to move on.”

Another day in Ford Nation. Thankfully, no thrown eggs or tomatoes made an appearance at the event. It was just the regular bread and circuses.
