Kind stranger donates car to injured hit-and-run student

Last month, 20-year-old West Georgia Technical College student Branden Whitehead was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver.

The incident left Whitehead, who doesn't have health insurance, with a punctured lung and several broken ribs, FOX 5 reported.

Vanessa Peebles saw Whitehead's story on FOX 5, and learned that he walked 15 miles each way to college every day. She decided to donate her 1990 Cadillac Fleetwood to the student, cutting Whitehead's commute from almost 5 hours on foot to 15 minutes by car.

"The thought of my kid walking, I don't even want to think about it. So I said, 'Nope, that's it, end of story, he's going to get this car,'" Peebles told MyFoxAtlanta.com.

Peebles said her generosity has one condition: that he continues to well in his studies.

Whitehead, who is studying to become a surgical technician, insists that won't be an issue:

"I'm thankful to be alive," he said, "and that makes me want to go to school even more."
