Restaurant gives surprise scholarship to hard-working waiter

Every year, Rathskeller Restaurant and Bar in Southbury, Connecticut, gives its Super Bowl Sunday proceeds to charity.

This year, the restaurant is giving the funds to one of its own: 19-year old waiter Stefano Baldamus.

Baldamus works two jobs to pay for his college tuition, rent and car bills, with no outside financial support. A hard worker with an upbeat attitude, he worked his way up from busboy to waiter at the restaurant.

"When I was here just as a busboy, every day I tried to be the best, and better, and faster, so I could move up and be a waiter and then as a waiter, I want to be the best waiter, and just keep going," Baldamus told WTNH.

"We decided that he's well worth giving the scholarship for him because he is working a few jobs, and asking for no help anywhere," said Janet Antilla of Rathskeller Restaurant & Bar, who added that Baldamus "choked up" when surprised with the money.

Customers have continued to add to the gift, which is currently at $1,000.
