A young Toronto girl wants every kid to have a bike.

Inspired by the book "A Life Like Mine: How Children Live Around the World," 7-year-old Julia Burkhardt decided to organize a community bike ride to raise money to buy bikes for kids who don't have them.

"I was sitting in a park one day with my bike beside me on its kickstand and I was thinking, 'Why couldn't everyone have a bike?'" Julia told the Toronto Sun.

"Then I told my mom what I wanted to do and she said it was good idea."

Julia put up posters in her neighbourhood, started a Facebook page, and recruited friends from school and Girl Guides to help spread the word about her fundraiser.

She called the event, held on June 22, "A Bike Like Mine."

45 supporters met at Etienne Brulé Park and rode their bikes to James Gardens, raising almost $700 for kids in need. With the money raised, Julia hopes they can buy 15 bikes off Craigslist and new helmets for each of them.

Capstone Community Church and Matthew House will help Julia distribute the bikes.

"She’s always been interested in social causes and she has a huge imagination," Julia's proud mother, Jacquie, told the Toronto Sun. "I think little kids are inventive and like to help other people."
