Windsor police are now investigating after a body was found at the scene of an early-morning house fire in the city's east end.

According to police, officers and firefighters responded around 4:30 a.m. Monday to a house fire in the 1900 block of Bernard Road. When the fire was extinguished, police say a body was recovered inside the home.

Arson and major crimes units are now investigating to determine both the cause of the fire and "circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body," police said in a statement on social media.

It is too soon to provide further information, police say, but they are looking for surveillance camera or dash cam footage from the area around the time of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Windsor police major crimes unit or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
