Bus driver faces traffic charges in boy's death

A bus driver has been charged with two traffic violations in relation to a fatal collision in Saskatoon where a 10-year-old boy died, police say.

The boy, Erik Herlen, was attempting to cross the street around 8:30 a.m. CST Nov. 2, 2010, when he was hit by a yellow bus that was transporting workers.

According to police, the bus was going south on Valens Drive and had turned onto 33rd Street West.

Police announced Thursday that the driver, a 59-year-old man, was charged with driving without due care and attention and failing to yield to a pedestrian. They said no criminal charges were being laid.
