Calgary Food Bank in need of supplies

The Calgary Food Bank is seeing a big jump in demand this month.

Officials say 400 families arrived Thursday looking for hampers. The average is usually around 200.

CEO James McAra says the flood is a factor for many families, and not just in Calgary.

"I'm hearing from other areas that it's all across Alberta," he said. "The ripple effect is not just in the flood area."

McAra says the problem for the food bank is also complicated by a shortage of volunteers that always happens at this time of year.
