Cash found in Value Village drapes given to next of kin
Money found inside drapes at a Dartmouth Value Village was a Guysborough County, N.S., woman's funeral fund, the woman's daughter said on Thursday.
A Value Village employee found thousands of dollars in the drapes and turned it over to police. Police say the money was in several sealed envelopes and was withdrawn in 2006 from a Guysborough County bank.
On Thursday, police said they’d heard from the woman who donated the drapes, and other items, all of which belonged to a loved one who died in January.
The woman's daughter, who lives out of province, heard about the find from a friend. "We were looking for this money, because she said she set it aside for the funeral," her daughter said.
The daughter, who asked not to be named, had already searched her mother's freezer, under the mattress, in the drawers and in Bibles. The money wasn't in the bank, either.
The Guysborough County link convinced her to contact police in case it was her mother’s money. “God works in mysterious ways,” she said. "Had it come up before, we would never have looked for it, because we didn’t know it was missing."
