Christy's weather: Temperatures drop in southern N.W.T.

N.W.T. outlook

After the heavy snowfall through the south of the N.W.T. yesterday, cold weather is in the forecast for today.

Temperatures have dropped into the -20s through the Dehcho, North Slave, and Sahtu regions. This clear and cold weather is expected to last through the weekend, with a small warm up in the forecast for next week.

Clear and cold weather will also be seen along the Arctic Coast of the N.W.T. today with high pressure in place.

Nunavut outlook

A strong low pressure system has moved into the Kivalliq today, bringing with it steady snowfall and extremely strong winds.

Because of the fresh snow and winds gusting to 80 km/h, blizzard or near-blizzard conditions are expected in Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven, Taloyoak, and Arviat today. Conditions should improve by Saturday as the system moves out of the area, but it will mean a blustery end to the week for the Central Arctic.

After that system passes through, extremely cold weather will return to the Kivalliq, meaning temperatures will drop towards -20 C tonight.

Baffin Island will hang onto some flurries today, but otherwise weather will remain calm and mild through the South Baffin communities.

Yukon outlook

A few flurries will linger through the Yukon today with temperatures in the minus single digits in the south.

Further north, cold and clear weather will remain in Old Crow.

Blizzard conditions have moved into the Dempster region yet again, with improving conditions expected later this morning.
