Civic holiday 2014: What's open and closed in Ottawa
Banks and many city services in Ottawa are closed on Monday for the Civic Holiday, but most stores and malls will remain open for at least part of the day.
Quebec stores, city services and businesses will also be open, as the province does not celebrate the Aug. 4 holiday.
Shopping
Shopping malls:
- Bayshore Shopping Centre is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Hazeldean Mall is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- St. Laurent Centre and Place D'Orleans are both open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Rideau Centre is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Alcohol sales:
- More than 300 LCBO stores across the province will be open. Check their website for details.

All banks in Ontario will be closed.
Museums, galleries and libraries
The National Gallery of Canada, Canadian Museum of Nature, Canadian Museum of History, Museum of Science and Technology and Canadian War Museum are all open regular summer hours.
The City Hall Art Gallery and OAG (Ottawa Art Gallery) Annex will remain open.
All branches, departments and services of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed and will reopen on Tuesday.
City of Ottawa Archives, arts centres, galleries, theatres and museums will be closed Monday. Clients should check ottawa.ca or their facility to confirm, as some exceptions may apply.
The City of Ottawa Archives Reference Services and Gallery 112 will be closed on Monday.
Transit service
OC Transpo will operate a Sunday schedule on Monday, with extra service added to routes 8, 94, 95 and 105. OC Transpo Sales and Information Centres will be closed Monday, with the exception of the Rideau Centre office, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the same hours as the mall itself.
The OC Transpo Information Centre (613-741-4390) will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
The OC Transpo Customer Relations Department (613-842-3600) will be closed.
ParaTranspo will operate a holiday service for Monday and will accept bookings for this day on July 28. Regular scheduled trips will be suspended.
Other city services
Ottawa City Hall and all seven Client Service Centres, including the Government Service Centre located at 110 Laurier Avenue West, will be closed on Monday. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday.
Provincial Offences Court, at 100 Constellation Cres., will be closed. Business will resume as usual on Tuesday.

Garbage, green bin and recycling collection
There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, or garbage collection on Monday. Monday’s pickup will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
In addition, the collection of garbage, green bin and recycling materials will be delayed by one day for the week of Aug. 4. For questions about curbside collection, refer to the collection calendar tool.
There will be no multi-residential bulky items, green bin and recycling container collection on Monday.
Monday’s pickup will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 5. Recycling container and green bin collection will also be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
However, multi-residential garbage container collection is not delayed and collection will take place on its regularly scheduled day during the week of Aug. 4.
The Trail Waste Facility will be closed on Monday.
Parking
All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions normally in place will apply on Monday.
Recreation services
Some outdoor pools, indoor pools and fitness centres will be open for public swimming, and fitness classes with modified schedules. Check with ottawa.ca or the facility of your choice for details.
All beaches, splash pads and some wading pools will be open, weather permitting.
Most registered programs at swimming pools, community centres and arenas are cancelled; however, clients should check with their facility to confirm, as some exceptions will apply.
Ottawa Public Health
The Ottawa Public Health Information Line (OPHIL) and the Aids-Sexual Health Info Line will be closed; however, you can call and leave a message and questions will be responded to within one business day. The Sexual Health Centre and Satellite Clinics, SITE office, Dental Clinics and Well Baby Drop-In will be closed.
The SITE Mobile Van will be operating from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Monday.
Municipal child care services
City-operated Child Care Centres will be closed.
