ETS bus catches fire in north Edmonton
Emergency crews were called to a street near the Londonderry Mall Saturday afternoon after an Edmonton bus caught fire.
Edmonton Fire received numerous calls around 2:45 p.m. about a bus on fire at 144th Avenue and 68th Street. About 25 firefighters were called to the scene.
"When crews arrived on-scene, flames were emitting from the rear of the bus and from the engine compartment," Karen Burgess, a spokesperson for Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.
There were passengers on the ETS bus when it caught fire, but no one was injured in the incident. Hazmat units were also called to the scene in case of a fuel spill.
The blaze was out by 4:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. The city's Fleet Services division will be performing a "forensic investigation" on the bus to determine the cause of the blaze, said Quinn Nicholson with the City of Edmonton.
Nicholson said given the long weekend, the investigation will not begin before Tuesday.
